รัฐอินเดียน่าในช่วงยุคปี 1980 เมื่อแม่คนหนึ่งที่ที่ชื่อว่า จอยส์ บีเยอร์ (Joyce Byers) รับบทโดย วิโนน่า ไรเดอร์ (Winona Ryder) ได้ออกตามหา วิล บีเยอร์ (Will Byers) ลูกชายของเธอที่จู่ๆ ก็ได้หายตัวไปอย่างลึกลับแบบไร้ร่องรอย เธอได้ขอความช่วยเหลือจากหน่วยงานท้องถิ่นให้ออกมาช่ วยตามหาลูกของเธออีกแรง แต่แล้วเธอก็ได้ค้นพบว่า การหายตัวไปของลูกชายเธอนี้ ดูเหมือนจะมีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องกับการทดลองลับๆ บางอย่างของรัฐบาล ไปจนถึงเรื่องราวเหนือธรรมชาติสุดระทึกของเด็กคนหนึ่ งที่มีพลังจิตที่อาจจะมีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องกับรัฐบาลอีกด ้วย!
