หลังจากที่มนุษย์ไม่สามารถให้กำเนิดบุตรได้อีกต่อไป จึงเริ่มเกิดการจลาจลและสงคราม กลุ่มปฏิวัติได้ลักพาตัว ธีโอ แฟรอน (ไคลฟ์ โอเว่น) ซึ่งเป็นอดีตนักเคลื่อนไหว ให้ไปพบกับ จูเลียน เทย์เลอร์ (จูเลียน มัวร์) อดีตคนรัก นักเคลื่อนไหวสายพิราบ ที่ปัจจุบันเป็นผู้นำของกลุ่มปฏิวัติ เพื่อขอให้ธีโอพาหญิงสาวแอฟริกันอพยพชื่อ คี (แคลร์-โฮป อะชิเตย์) หลบหนีออกนอกประเทศ เพื่อไปขึ้นเรือของโครงการ The Human Project ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มเคลื่อนไหวแนวสันติวิธีที่ต้องการสร้าง สังคมมนุษย์ที่ดีกว่าให้เกิดขึ้น เมื่อธีโอพบว่า คี หญิงสาวอพยพใจแตกกำลังท้องแก่ และใกล้ถึงกำหนดคลอดบุตรคนแรกที่มนุษยชาติต่างรอคอย รวมทั้งพบว่าสมาชิกกลุ่มปฏิวัติสายเหยี่ยวต้องการจับ อาวุธขึ้นสู้ และต้องการใช้ คี เป็นสัญลักษณ์สำคัญของการลุกฮือ ไม่มีใครรู้ว่าการค้นพบดังกล่าว จะทำให้ธีโอเรียกหาความเป็นวีรบุรุษกลับมา หรือเพียงเพราะความสิ้นหวังของเขาได้พัฒนาไปสู่จุดที ่เขาไม่กลัวที่จะต้องเสียอะไรอีกต่อไป แต่ธีโอก็ได้พาคีหลบหนีเข้าไปในค่ายผู้อพยพ เพื่อพบชะตากรรมสุดท้ายของทั้งเขา เธอ นักปฏิวัติ เจ้าหน้าที่รัฐ และมนุษยชาติ
