Serpico ภาพยนตร์ในปี 1973 ผลงานการกำกับของ Sidney Lumet สร้างจากเรื่องจริงของ Frank Serpico ตำรวจตงฉินของ NYPD เป็นบทบาทการแสดงที่ยอดเยี่ยมที่สุดเรื่องหนึ่งของ Al Pacino ทำให้ได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงออสก้าร์สาขา Best Actor เป็นครั้งแรกในปี 1974 แต่พลาดให้กับ Jack Lemmon จากภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Save The Tiger แต่เขากลับไปได้รางวัลนี้จาก Golden Globe Award

Serpico เป็นภาพยนตร์ที่ตีแผ่ความฟอนเฟะของวงการผู้พิทักษ์สั นติราชในแบบที่ไม่มี หนังตำรวจเรื่องไหนกล้าแตะมาก่อน มันจึงกลายเป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้หนังตำรวจในยุคหลังๆหลา ยเรื่องต้องเอาเป็น แบบอย่าง

นับจากภาพยนตร์ เรื่องนี้เข้าฉายในบ้านเรา ส่งผลให้คำว่า " SERPICO" เป็นคำสามัญเรียกชื่อเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจที่แต่งกายนอกเ ครื่องแบบ ซึ่งจนถึงปัจจุบันก็ยังเรียกกันอยู่ในกลุ่มตำรวจรุ่น ใหญ่ เพราะรุ่นหลัง ๆ แทบไม่รู้จักคำนี้แล้ว และอีกประการหนึ่ง การแต่งกายของ SERPICO คือ นอกเครื่องแบบ ไว้ผมยาว หนวดเครารุงรัง สวมแว่นตาเรย์ แบนด์ ก็กลายเป็นเครื่องแต่งกายยอดนิยมของเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจ นอกเครื่องแบบของบ้าน เรา เรื่อยมาจนทุกวันนี้ก็ยังแต่งกันแบบนี้ และยังเป็นคำเรียกขานกันในหมู่นิสิตนักศึกษายุคประชา ธิปไตยเบ่งบาน ที่นิยมแต่งกายและมีอุดมการณ์แบบเดียวกับ "SERPICO"

และขอถือโอกาสนี้แสดงความไว้อาลัยมายังผู้กำกับ Sidney Lumet ที่เพิ่งลาโลกไปด้วยวัย 86 เมื่อวันที่ 4 เมย. 2011 ปีที่แล้ว หลังจากฝากผลงานภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยมไว้ให้ได้ชมหลายเรื ่องด้วยกันเช่น 12 Angry Men/ Murder on the Orient Express/ Dog Day Afternoon/ Network/ Prince of the City/ Deathtrap/ The Verdict/ etc
