เรื่องย่อ
สมาชิกสภาคองเกรสหนุ่มหล่อ สตีเฟ่น คอลลินส์ (เบน แอฟเฟล็ค) เป็นอนาคตของพรรคการเมืองที่เขาสังกัดอยู่ เขาเป็นผู้ได้รับเลือกให้ดำรงตำแหน่งประธานคณะกรรมกา รพิจารณางบประมาณด้านกลาโหม ทุกสายตาคาดหวังว่าเขาจะเป็นตัวแทนของพรรคในการลงชิง ชัยตำแหน่งประธานาธิบดี จนกระทั่งผู้ช่วยวิจัย/คนรักลับ ๆ ของเขาถูกฆ่าตายอย่างเหี้ยมโหด และความลับที่ถูกฝังไว้ก็ถูกเปิดเผยออกมา
