The Long Walk เป็นเรื่องราวในโลกดิสโทเปียที่รัฐบาลเผด็จการจัดการ แข่งขันเดินมาราธอนประจำปีที่เรียกว่า เกมเดินมรณะ โดยคัดเลือกเด็กหนุ่ม 100 คนมาแข่งขันกันบนทางหลวงหมายเลข 1 ผู้เข้าร่วมจะต้องรักษาความเร็วในการเดินให้ได้อย่าง น้อย 4 ไมล์ต่อชั่วโมง (ประมาณ 6.4 กิโลเมตรต่อชั่วโมง) หากเดินช้าเกินไปจะได้รับคำเตือน 3 ครั้ง และหากไม่สามารถเดินต่อไปได้ภายใน 30 วินาทีจะถูกยิงทิ้งทันที การแข่งขันจะดำเนินต่อไปจนกว่าจะมีผู้ชนะเพียงคนเดีย วที่รอดชีวิต
