เรื่องราวเริ่มต้นขึ้นเมื่อวิญญาณของ เบลีย์ สุนัขที่พบว่าตัวมันเองมีความรู้สึกและค้นพบว่า เมื่อมันตายจากร่างหนึ่งมันจะเกิดใหม่ในร่างใหม่แต่ค วามรู้สึกและความทรงจำยังเหมือนเดิม มันเริ่มตั้งคำถามเกี่ยวกับเป้าหมายของชีวิต การเกิด การอยู่ และการสร้างความสัมพันธ์กับมนุษย์ จนกระทั่งมันไปพบกับเด็กชายชื่อว่า อีธาน ทั้งสองเติบโตและผ่านปัญหามาด้วยกัน จนกระทั่งวาระสุดท้ายในชีวิตหมาของเบลีย์ หลังจากมันตาย มันเกิดใหม่อีกครั้งแต่ไม่มีครั้งไหนเลยที่มันจะลืมอ ีธาน และเป้าหมายของมันคือ การกลับมาได้พบกับอีธานอีกครั้ง
