เรื่องราวการผจญภัยข้ามเวลา ของ มาร์ตี้ แม็กฟลาย และ ด็อก เอ็มเม็ตต์ บราวน์ โดยคราวนี้ พวกเขาใช้ไทม์แมชชีน ย้อนเวลา ไปในอนาคตจากปี 1985 ไปปี 2015 เพื่อแก้ไขความผิดที่ลูกชายของมาตี้ ก่อเรื่องเอาไว้ แต่แล้วพวกเขาก็ยังต้อง ย้อนกลับไปในอดีตปี 1955 อยู่ดีเพราะ บลีฟศัตรูคนเก่าของตระกูล แม็ก ฟลาย ที่อยู่ในปีอนาคตได้แอบย้อนเวลากลับไป แก้ไขอดีตของตัวเอง จนทำให้เขากลาย เป็นเศรษฐี ทำให้ด็อกเตอร์บราวร์และมาตี้ ต้องย้อนกลับไปปี 1955 อีกครั้งหนึ่งเพื่อ แก้ไขในสิ่งที่บลีฟทำไปทั้งหมดและก็เกิด ความขัดข้องทำให้ด็อกเตอร์บราวร์ต้องไป ติดอยู่ในยุคคาวบอยในปี 1885 ของท้ายเรื่อง

มาร์ตี้ แม็กฟลาย (ไมเคิล เจ. ฟอกซ์) ต้องย้อนเวลาเพื่อไปตาม ดร.เอ็มเม็ตต์ บราวน์ (คริสโตเฟอร์ ลอยด์) ที่ติดอยู่ในยุคคาวบอยกลับมาสู่ช่วงเวลาปัจจุปัน ทำให้เขาได้พบญาติบรรพบุรุษของตัวเองในยุคนั้นด้วย แต่แล้วพลังงานของเครื่องย้อนเวลารถยนต์เดอลอรีนก็หม ดลง ทำให้ด็อกเตอร์บราวต้องใช้รถไฟเป็นเครื่องย้อนเวลากล ับไปสู่เวลาปัจจุปันอีกครั้ง มาร์ตี้ต้องดวลปืนกับนักเลงคาวบอย เพื่อไม่ยอมให้ตัวเองถูกจดจำว่าเป็นคนขี้ขลาดที่สุดใ นยุคนั้น ส่วนดร.บราวน์ ก็พบกับรักแท้ที่ไม่อาจปล่อยเธอจากไปได้ ทำให้ทั้งคู่ลังเลที่จะกลับสู่เวลาปัจจุปันในปี 1985
