เป็นเรื่องราวของแม่ทัพหญิงผู้เก่งกาจด้านการรบ เหอเยี่ยน (รับททโดย โจวเย่) ลูกสาวคนโตของตระกูลเหอ เพื่อปกป้องตำแหน่งอันสูงส่งของครอบครัว เธอถูกบังคับให้สวมหน้ากากและแสร้งทำเป็น เหอหรูเฟย ลูกชายคนโตของระกูลตั้งแต่ยังเป็นเด็กหญิง เหอเยี่ยน ได้พบกับ เซียวหยู (รับททโดย เฉิงเหล่ย) นักวิชาการผู้ชาญฉลาดที่โรงเรียนเซียนชางเป็นครั้งแร กเธอมุ่งมั่นที่จะหลบหนีจากชะตากรรมของครอบครัวจึงออ กจากโรงเรียนและมุ่งหน้าสู่สนามรบหลายปีต่อมา เหอเยี่ยนกลับบ้านในฐานะวีรบุรุษที่โด่งดังแต่กลับถู กครอบครัวทรยศเมื่อ เหอหรูเฟย พี่ชายของเธอปรากฏตัวขึ้นอีกครั้งหลังจากรอดชีวิตจาก การทรยศเหอเยี่ยนก็สวมบทบาทเป็นลูกสาวของเจ้าหน้าที่ ประตูเมืองและปลอมตัวเป็นผู้ชายเพื่อเข้าร่วมกองทัพใ นเย่โจว โดยสาบานว่าจะยึดคืนทุกสิ่งที่ถูกพรากไปจากเธอ
