นิโคลัส ออซ โอเซแรนสกี้ [Matthew Perry] หมอฟันหนุ่มนิสัยดีอาศัยอยู่ในแถบชานเมืองมอนทรีออล แคนาดา วันหนึ่งออซมีเพื่อนบ้านใหม่นามว่า จิมมี่ ทูเดสกี้ [Bruce Willis] มือปืนนักฆ่าระดับพระกาฬเจ้าของฉายา จิมมี่ เดอะทิวลิป ที่หนีมาหลบซ่อนตัวจากการคุกคามตามล่าหมายหัวจากแก๊ง โกโกแลค [Gogolak] แก๊งมาเฟียชื่อก้องของชิคาโก

โซเฟีย [Rosanna Arquette] ภรรยาของออซที่วางแผนฆ่าเค้าเพื่อหวังในเงินประกันชี วิตตลอดเวลา เธอจึงทำการว่าจ้าง จิล [Amanda Peet] มือปืนสาวผู้ไม่เคยลงมือฆ่าใครมาก่อนไปตีสนิทเป็นผู้ ช่วยหมอฟันของออซ แต่ในขณะเดียวกันโซเฟียก็วางแผนให้ออซเดินทางไปหาแก๊ งโกโกแลคที่ชิคาโก เพื่อแจ้งเบาะแสของจิมมี่โดยหวังเงินรางวัลจาก แจนนี่ [Kevin Pollak] หัวหน้าใหญ่แก๊งโกโกแลคคนปัจจุบัน และที่ชิคาโกออซได้พบกับ ซินเทีย [Natasha Henstridge] ภรรยาเของจิมมี่ซึ่งถูกแก๊งโกโกแลคจับเป็นตัวประกัน และเพราะความใกล้ชิดและถูกชะตากันทำให้ออซก็ตกลงหลุม กับซินเทียทันที และนี่คือที่มาของเรื่องราวความวุ่นวายมากมายเพราะออ ซต้องเสี่ยงชีวิตครั้ง สำคัญเพราะเค้าต้องหักเหลี่ยมกับแก๊งโกโกแลคซึ่งส่ง แฟร้งกี้ ฟิกส์ [Michael Clarke Duncan] มือปืนมีชื่ออีกคนของวงการมาตามประกบออซซึ่งต้องเดิน ทางกลับมาเมืองมอนทรีออ ลอีกครั้ง และออซยังต้องตกเป็นเป้าหมายของจิมมี่ เดอะทิวลิปที่ไปยุ่งกับซินเทียอย่างช่วยไม่ได้
